Our colleagues from DiSSCO Netherlands have recently launched De Kracht van Natuurwetenschappelijke Collecties in Nederland (The Power of Natural History Collections in the Netherlands). The booklet demonstrates the exceptional societal impact of the unique collections hold in Dutch institutions and the crucial rol of natural history assets for biodiversity research and beyond.
Policy-makers in sight
The booklet, available in English and Dutch, has been designed primarily for policy-making audiences. It includes an accessible description of DiSSCo and its main goals and features, a description of the Dutch natural history assets, and specific arguments to support the investment in digitising (Dutch) natural history assets.
A quick view to DiSSCo-NL distribution in the Netherlands
The booklet also includes a partner-by-partner description of all DiSSCo NL institutions, highlighting their regional contribution to the national scientific effort.
“The Power of Natural History Collections in the Netherlands” has been widely distributed across the country, and specific invitations have been issued to the main policy-making actors to contact DiSSCo-NL to learn more about DiSSCo and the crucial role that natural history collections can play in Dutch biodiversity research.
Colleagues from the Museum De Bastei (Nijmegen), partners of DiSSCo-NL
DiSSCo-NL hopes that this example will inspire other DiSSCo partners to replicate the effort in their respective countries. If you are a DiSSCo partner and are interested in knowing more about how the booklet and subsequent campaign to distribute it, please contact the DiSSCo CSO and we will put you in contact with our colleagues from DiSSCo-NL.
